Writer-director Nikyatu Jusu’s feature debut, Nanny, is set to debut on Amazon Prime Video this December, and Deadline reports that she’s already lined up her next project. She’ll be directing a feature-length adaptation of her 2019 short film Suicide by Sunlight for Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions and Universal.
Set in a near-future New York City, Suicide by Sunlight focused on Valentina (Natalie Paul), a day-walking Black vampire protected from the sun by her melanin. When a new woman is introduced to her estranged twin daughters, Valentina finds it hard to suppress her bloodlust.
In addition to directing, Jusu is co-writing the screenplay for the feature film with Frederica Bailey. Jusu describes the project as an “expansion” of the short film, though Deadline notes that it’s unclear how closely the feature’s story will follow that of the original short.
