Andy Muschietti (It, Mama) has stated in the past that he’d love to put his own spin on The Howling, Joe Dante’s 1981 staple of the werewolf sub-genre. And that wish may come true, as Muschietti is apparently in talks to remake the film for Netflix.
Based on the 1977 novel of the same name by Gary Brandner, The Howling follows Karen White (Dee Wallace), a newscaster who heads to a remote psychiatric retreat in the mountains after a near-fatal encounter with a serial killer. Unfortunately, the locals are not what they seem…
While it’s still early stages, Netflix reportedly has the rights to The Howling. This would be the first film in the franchise since 2011’s woeful reboot The Howling: Reborn.
