Donald Sutherland (Invasion of the Body Snatchers) and Jaeden Martell (It) are set to lead the cast of Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, with Sutherland playing the titular character and Martell playing his young friend Craig. Deadline now reports that Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Killing Eve) has also signed on to star!
Mr. Harrigan’s Phone is based on the Stephen King story of the same name from his recent collection If It Bleeds. Ryan Murphy and Blumhouse are developing the project, with John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side) attached to write and direct.
King’s novella centres around the relationship between ageing, reclusive billionaire Mr. Harrigan and Craig, the local boy hired to read to him. After the old man passes away, Craig discovers he’s still able to communicate with his friend from beyond the grave via the iPhone he gifted the man, which was buried with him. But keeping that line of communication open has chilling consequences…
Howell-Baptiste will play Ms. Hart, Craig’s caring and concerned teacher. The adaptation is anticipated to release sometime in 2022.
