Following the huge success of his English language shockers The Autopsy of Jane Doe and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, acclaimed filmmaker André Øvredal has returned to his natal country to direct a film that shares a whole lot more in common with his 2010 feature TROLLHUNTER.
Going by the name of MORTAL, Øvredal’s latest is a spellbinding thriller which blends sci-fi and super hero elements. Starring Nat Wolff (The Fault In Our Stars) the story follows a young man in a Sleepy Norwegian town who is arrested after killing a teen. On warning his captors that he has supernatural powers that he can’t control, and that anyone who gets close to him will die, the question that remains is, is he a liar, a freak of nature or an angry God?
With the film in select theatres and on demand and digital on November 6, SCREAM caught up with the Norwegian filmmaker to find out what inclined him to return to his roots after two big international hits and how Mortal has all the trappings to become a dark superhero franchise like no other…
