American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy is creating a new series for Netflix based on Jeffrey Dahmer—and AHS regular Evan Peters will play the notorious serial killer.
Called Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, the 10-episode limited series will be told largely from the point of view of Dahmer’s victims and will explore the incompetence and apathy of the police department that almost apprehended Dahmer at least 10 times during his multi-year killing spree. Deadline notes that the show is also expected to touch on the idea of white privilege, explaining that “Dahmer, a clean-cut, good-looking white guy, was repeatedly given a free pass by cops as well as by judges who were lenient when he had been charged with petty crimes.”
Monster will also star Niecy Nash (Scream Queens) as Glenda Cleveland, one of Dahmer’s neighbours, who tried raising the alarm about Dahmer’s disturbing behaviour multiple times. Penelope Ann Miller (The Relic) and Richard Jenkins (The Cabin in the Woods) will play Dahmer’s parents, and Shaun J. Brown (Into the Dark) will play Tracy, the killer’s last intended victim, whose escape resulted in Dahmer’s arrest. Carl Franklin is directing the pilot episode.
