Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions, and Weed Road Productions are cooking up a new adaptation of Stephen King’s 1980 novel Firestarter—and Michael Greyeyes (Blood Quantum, Fear the Walking Dead) has joined the cast.
Greyeyes will play Rainbird, a relentless and powerful man who has been pushed into a violent life. He joins the previously announced Zac Efron (Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile).
Keith Thomas (The Vigil) is directing this fresh take, with Scott Teems (Halloween Kills) penning the script. The novel centres around a young girl who develops pyrokinetic abilities and is abducted by a secret government agency that wants to harness her gift as a weapon.
Teems will also executive produce the film alongside Martha De Laurentiis, who was an associate producer on the 1984 Drew Barrymore-starring adaptation. Jason Blum and Akiva Goldsman will produce.
