Back in 2012, Scott Derrickson directed one of the scariest films of the year, Ethan Hawkes-starrer Sinister. Now, we have the red-band trailer for the film’s sequel, this time coming from Citadel director Ciaran Foy. The first film’s writer C. Robert Cargill – as well as Scott Derrickson – is on-board to lend a writing hand.
In my opinion, the trailer lacks any real punch and appears to be following a story that is far too similar to the first. It is also rather spoilerific, not leaving much to our imaginations and deciding to show us a helluva lot. Putting this negativity aside, perhaps the similarities to first film are good thing. There does seem to be some scary videotapes present in the sequel and the sound design is still scarily effective. I will hold back on making any real judgment until the film is released, but for now, take a look for yourself and draw your own conclusions. Synopsis: In the aftermath of the shocking events in Sinister, a protective young mother and her 9 year-old twin sons move into a rural house that Bughuul is residing in. He tries to convince one of the children to kill his whole family and film the murders.
Sinister 2 will be released in the UK and USA on August 21st 2015.
