“This isn’t America… This is Derry.”
Are you ready to venture back to Derry, Maine? Unfortunately, that won’t be coming for quite a while yet!
Like most projects in the works, Welcome to Derry was forced to halt production during Hollywood’s strike action. This resulted in Warner Bros and Max pushing the show from their 2024 slate into 2025.
However, we’ve been lucky enough to get our first look at the upcoming thrills in store, as Max have included a few brief clips in a trailer teasing their 2024/2025 slate.
Appearing under the title Welcome to Derry: From the World of IT, although the clips are near-blink-and-you’ll-miss-them, it’s enough to get a feel for the series.
We see the town of Derry looking almost identical to how it looked in the hit movies, some children riding bikes, a decayed hand lurching out of some water… And most tantalizingly of all, the iconic red balloon that always means one very sinister clown is nearby.
Welcome to Derry is billed as a prequel to the two smash-hit movies, exploring events of the 1950s and possibly before. What remains unclear about the project is if Pennywise the Dancing Clown will make an appearance.
The teaser clips seem to hint that the legendary demon is around, but if so, who is playing the role? We’ve heard conflicting reports as to whether Bill Skarsgard has opted to reprise the role for Welcome to Derry, but the overriding opinion seems to be that the actor was unable to commit due to a busy schedule.
So, if Pennywise lurks around Derry, who’s behind the make-up? It certainly adds to the intrigue and hype that continues to build surrounding the show. We’ll watch the project closely as it continues to develop and bring you any further updates.
