Scream star Matthew Lillard has joined the cast of Blumhouse’s upcoming film adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy’s, Deadline reports.
Also new to the cast is Josh Hutcherson (Tragedy Girls). The film is set to begin production in New Orleans in February 2023.
Emma Tammi (The Wind) is directing the adaptation, which she co-wrote with Scott Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback. Jim Henson’s Creature Shop is creating the killer animatronics at the centre of the story.
Five Nights at Freddy’s is based on the popular survival horror video game series that debuted in 2014. The games see players stepping into the shoes of a security guard working nights at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a Chuck E. Cheese-inspired family restaurant that features singing animatronic characters.
Unfortunately, these previously cute characters spring to life at night and attempt to kill anyone they encounter. Armed with only a flashlight, security cameras, and doors that won’t stay shut for long, players must attempt to survive the night.
Plot details for the film adaptation have yet to be revealed.
