As the seminal classic The Bride of Frankenstein prepares to celebrate its 90th anniversary, it seems fitting that we get an update on the remake.
Shockingly, we haven’t heard any news on Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride! since January 2025. Last we heard, the movie had moved from its October 2025 release date, being pushed to March 2026.
For many, this was an indication that Warner Bros. were having second thoughts about the film, and that The Bride! required some tinkering.
Whether on not this is true has yet to be confirmed, but our newest update suggests The Bride! is moving forward and will meet its release date.
According to the MPA, The Bride! has been awarded an “R” rating for:
“strong/bloody violent content, sexual content/nudity and language.”
From this description, it’s apparent that Gyllenhaal’s interpretation of the material will be radically different from the 1935 original.
According to an official logline:
“The Bride! sees a lonely Frankenstein’s Monster travel to 1930s Chicago to seek the aid of a Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement.”
Described as a “radical punk love story,” The Bride! will be the latest in a plethora of “classic” movie monsters receiving a modern facelift. Others over the past few years have included The Invisible Man, Wolf Man, and Netflix’s upcoming Frankenstein adaption.
Jessie Buckley stars in the title role, with Christian Bale embodying Frankenstein’s lonely monster. Penelope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Benning, and Jake Gyllenhaal will also feature in undisclosed roles.
Now that The Bride! has been rated, a teaser shouldn’t be too far behind, so we’ll keep our eyes peeled.
The Bride! will come alive on the big screen on March 6th 2026, stay tuned for further updates!
