MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL’S “THE BRIDE!” IS D.O.A. AT THE BOX-OFFICE

Posted on: March 14th, 2026

After Scream 7 dominated the box-office, hopes were high that the horror genre would continue to win big with Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride.

Despite the movie’s bloated $60-90 million budget, The Bride was expected to open respectfully with a $16-18 million haul.

Warner Bros. were pinning their hopes on the popularity of actress Jessie Buckley, and the Oscar buzz around her for Hamnet.

However, audiences didn’t show an ounce of interest in a re-imagining of The Bride of Frankenstein, with The Bride failing to come alive at the box-office.

Despite the hopeful domestic estimates, The Bride would make a scant $3 million in its first day, ultimately finishing the weekend at $7.3 million.

Elsewhere, The Bride also failed to capture interest, garnering just $6.3 million from multiple other markets. This puts the movie’s worldwide opening total at a disappointing $13.6 million.

Against such a large budget, plus promotional costs, The Bride is expected to lose Warner Bros. somewhere in the region of $80 million.

This is another blow to the ambitious plans to re-invent Universal’s “classic Monsters” line. Although Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man was a success, his follow-up Wolf Man was a critical and commercial disaster.

With the failure of Gyllenhaal’s The Bride, all eyes are now on Lee Cronin’s The Mummy to see if the plans can make a comeback.

We’ll let you know how it all pans out very soon.
