The trailer for tech horror film M3GAN certainly caught the internet’s attention when it was released earlier this month, even sparking a Twitter feud between the titular creepy doll and the reigning king of creepy dolls, Chucky. The film was originally set to release in theatres on January 13th, 2023, but as it turns out, we won’t have to wait that long after all.
M3GAN’s release has been bumped up a whole week, moving to January 6th, 2023!
Gerard Johnstone (Housebound) directed M3GAN, which was written by Akela Cooper (Malignant) and based on a story by Cooper and James Wan. Here’s the official synopsis:
“M3GAN is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a life-like doll programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally. Designed by brilliant toy-company roboticist Gemma, M3GAN can listen and watch and learn as she becomes friend and teacher, playmate and protector, for the child she is bonded to.
“When Gemma suddenly becomes the caretaker of her orphaned 8-year-old niece, Cady, Gemma is unsure and unprepared to be a parent. Under intense pressure at work, Gemma decides to pair her M3GAN prototype with Cady in an attempt to resolve both problems—a decision that will have unimaginable consequences.”
The cast for M3GAN includes Allison Williams (Get Out), Violet McGraw (The Haunting of Hill House), Ronny Chieng (Godzilla vs. Kong), Brian Jordan Alvarez (Will & Grace), Jen Van Epps (Cowboy Bebop), Lori Dungey (The Lord of the Rings): The Fellowship of the Ring), and Stephane Garneau-Monten (Kin). The film was produced by Blumhouse and Wan.
