Lionsgate have decided The Crow won’t be taking flight quite as soon as expected.

The Bill Skarsgard led reboot of the beloved 1994 film starring Brandon Lee has been pushed back over two months, now set to release on August 23rd 2024.

Originally releasing on June 7th, alarm bells immediately sounded when the date wasn’t announced until late February. This gave The Crow very little turnaround time, however, a trailer arrived on time one month later.

The reception of said trailer may have had a hand in why Lionsgate have postponed the film…

Receiving 133,000 dislikes against 87,000 likes on the company’s YouTube channel, it was quite clear the public had strong feelings.

Given the teaser’s reception, it’s entirely possible Lionsgate panicked and balked at pitting their reboot against Bad Boys: Ride or Die. This is understandable, given that the studio has sunk over $60 million into the project so far.

Now, The Crow is set to open against MGM’s Blink Twice and Sony’s The Forge. Both films are expected to come and go with little notice, meaning The Crow has a better chance of out-performing them.

However, given the already hostile public response, it seems unlikely that Lionsgate will make a profit from the film. Their planned reboot-verse will likely not be taking flight… But we shall see.
