“Some of us are meant to wear masks…”
We’re less than a month away from the release of Peacock’s Crystal Lake series, so it’s the perfect time for a full trailer.
The clip immediately endears fans of the long-running Friday the 13th franchise with some fantastic campground atmosphere. Clearly aware of their audience, the prequel series appears to be littered with winks and nods to the storied franchise that fans will undoubtedly appreciate.
Taking us to 1971, we are introduced to Pamela Voorhees, played to the hilt by Scooby-Doo star Linda Cardellini.
Even in this brief teaser, it’s clear that Cardellini gives the role everything she has, as we see her traverse joy, grief, madness, and heartbreak. It’s a vast array of emotions, fleshing out a character who has previously only appeared on screen for a few scant minutes. If we can say anything about this teaser, it’s that the writing is strong, and Cardellini steals the show.
Similarly, the clip does a good job of setting up the small hamlet of Crystal Lake. Various vignettes make clear that this is a story about the town as a whole, not just an origin tale about the Voorhees clan.
What’s most fascinating, however, is what the trailer hints at. There are various instances of Pamela Voorhees refusing to believe her son is dead, and the suggestion that she alone is not responsible for all the killings in the area.
Also, there’s the heavy suggestion that all is not… normal about the Voorhees clan, as one character threatens to expose what they “really are…”
High drama and intrigue abound with this teaser, and understandably, it has gone viral within the horror community. The appetite is palpable for Crystal Lake, we just hope the show lives up to the sky-high expectations.
Crystal Lake will release in its entirety via Peacock on October 15th 2026, and we certainly hope it’s the shot in the arm Friday the 13th needs.
