You can’t bury the past…

Because Sony are very eager to dig it back up again.

It hasn’t been too long since we last reported some details that had leaked regarding the script for a legacy sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer. At the time we speculated that production may still be a way off, as writer Leah McKendrick had stated she was still working on the script.

However, a trusted source tells us that the film might be moving much quicker than anticipated, with Sony putting the legacy sequel on the fast-track.

It is said executives for Sony Pictures were “very enthusiastic” when pitched the project, and are now even more eager that they’ve read a first draft of the script. Our source continued that it is now their intention to get the film into production as soon as possible. Pre-production on the legacy sequel is said to be “chugging along nicely,” with our source telling us that Sony are confident the film will be a “huge” success.

A further nugget of information we were given was that the participation of actress Jennifer Love Hewitt is vital to get this sequel on the screen. We are told that Hewitt’s Julie James is a major player in this new script, and there is little way to work the project without her participation.

As we reported a year ago, Hewitt and her former co-star Freddie Prinze Jnr were being sought to reprise their roles. However, it is still understood that no offers have been made, despite Hewitt voicing that she would “100%” return in a recent interview.

So, with this legacy sequel on the fast-track, and Jennifer Love Hewitt potentially having a large role, excitement is beginning to build for the new Last Summer instalment. It is hoped we will be gifted with an official announcement of some sort soon, and until then we’ll be keeping our ear to the ground on this one.
