Well, sort of. With New Line looking to re-reboot A Nightmare on Elm Street (although we’ve heard nothing on it for nearly a year), it’s been anybody’s guess as to who would don the famous glove. At the end of last week however, Elm Street fan Bettie Toxic got an unexpected response on Twitter after tweeting:
“If A Nightmare on Elm Street gets rebooted again can we please somehow get Kevin Bacon as Freddy? I think he’d be fantastic.”
Bacon then quoted her tweet, adding:
“I like the way you think Bettie.”
It’s not much I know, but the fact that Bacon put this out there suggests it’s a role he’d be more than a little interested in should it come his way. There are few actors that I could genuinely see doing the iconic character justice but I gotta say, Bacon’s one of them. He’s got horror pedigree too, with an early role in Friday the 13th followed by Tremors, Flatliners, Hollow Man and, most recently, Greg McLean’s divisive The Darkness.
With talk of a return to Elm Street having hushed though, who knows if it’s still on the cards at New Line? I can certainly imagine them taking their time to get it right however; they’ll no doubt be keen to avoid another abomination like the 2010 remake.
