Ready or Not 2 is gaining serious steam at Fox Searchlight.
Our first hint of a sequel came from star Samara Weaving dropping some cryptic comments last year. Soon afterward, the actress confirmed that the project was in active development.
Then in October, filmmaking team Radio Silence confirmed they would be returning for the sequel, from a script by original writers Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy.
Now, we have our first high-profile casting for Ready or Not 2, and it’s one that’s gotten genre fans excited.
Kathryn Newton, best known for her recent plethora of genre work, has boarded the project.
Newton has been on the rise as a “scream queen” since 2020’s Freaky. This reputation has only grown with her roles in Lisa Frankenstein, and 2023’s Abigail. Newton’s casting in Ready or Not 2 will mark the star’s second collaboration with Radio Silence, after the previously mentioned Abigail.
Details on the film’s plot, and the role Newton will play, are currently being kept under wraps.
2019’s Ready or Not starred an ensemble including Adam Brody, Andie MacDowell, and Henry Czerny alongside Weaving. The film told of a bride forced to participate in a deadly game of hide and seek on her wedding night.
The film gained high praised for Weaving’s strong lead performance, and its expert mix of horror and comedy. Grossing over $60 million worldwide, Ready or Not has become a favourite among genre fans, who are hungry for this sequel.
We’ll keep an eye out for any further updates on this sequel.
