Joss Whedon is heading back to horror with the current project he is working on. It is said to be a historical horror film set during World War 2 and he has said: “I’m in the middle of a screenplay that I am extremely passionate about…it’s definitely a departure from the things that I’m known for. It’s as dark as anything I’ve ever written. I just said, ‘OK, id, your turn.’ I would write scenes and be like, ‘Oh this is great! I shouldn’t be allowed near people.’”
The writer-director has been working so much on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Avengers that he hasn’t had time to delve back into our favourite genre since 2012’s The Cabin in the Woods. He first shot to fame when working on Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so it’s great to see him edging back to his darker roots. It will be interesting to see what he does with a horror film set during World War 2; do we sense zombie Nazis, again?
