For many years, John Carpenter seemed reluctant to embrace the Halloween franchise.
His classic slasher tale was never intended to spawn a series of films, but here we are almost fifty years later, thirteen movies deep.
For the most part, Carpenter remained hands-off, selling his interest in Halloween in 1986 after a failed reboot attempt.
In 2017, Carpenter announced he would return for the fortieth anniversary reboot, after thirty-six years away.
Carpenter not only served as an executive producer on David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy, but also provided the film’s iconic score.
Grossing over $400 million worldwide, it’s safe to say the movies were a success, and likely netted Carpenter a pretty penny.
Now, it seems the filmmaker is eager to return to the Halloween series for its next incarnation.
Recently, whilst promoting his new graphic novel and companion album, the subject of Halloween was inevitably put to Carpenter.
With Miramax actively developing a fiftieth anniversary Halloween project, would Carpenter be moved to participate?
“They haven’t asked me yet, but I sure would,” Carpenter said. “And, you know, I stuck with that franchise over the years. It’s important to me, and I’d love to contribute.”
So, Carpenter is willing, which would likely be a huge win for any future Halloween content.
Currently, details are sparse on what’s in store for Halloween’s fiftieth anniversary. However, whispers suggest a feature film is in the works between Miramax and Paramount, although this remains unconfirmed.
Encouraging words from Carpenter, and hopefully they spur more updates on what’s next for Halloween.
