It has already been confirmed that John Carpenter would be working on a couple of TV series for Universal, but it has now been revealed that he will be returning to direct. It is unknown what the series is, but we do know that it has been written by X-Men and X-Men 2 scribe David Hayter and that Carpenter will be directing the pilot episode.
The news broke at MCM Comic Con where Hayter revealed, “I’m doing a TV show, I’m writing and producing a TV show, that John Carpenter is directing the pilot for.” How exciting?! Carpenter hasn’t directed anything since 2010’s lacklustre The Ward; not including the shorts John Carpenter: Distant Dream and John Carpenter: Escape from New York.
Carpenter and Universal are developing Tales for a Halloween Night and then Nightside, based on the literary series by Simon R. Green, so maybe this news ties into one of those.
