The Gremlins director has been hired to helm an upcoming supernatural thriller set in Buda Castle in Hungary. Before you say anything, this is not a strange reboot of Labyrinth, so don’t expect the Goblin King to make an appearance.
Synopsis:
Labirintus tells the story of a paranormal investigator and psychiatric researcher who join forces to explore an abandoned subterranean Soviet research facility, hidden within the Budapest Labyrinth. When supernatural forces confound and torment the group they begin to question their own sanity. To escape they must quash their fears and lead their team to find and destroy the dark heart of the maze.
Joe Dante has dabbled in a lot of sub-genres of horror and his most recent endeavour was a very funny take on zombie romance with Burying the Ex. From little monsters to psychological terrors, he’s a horror director we’re always keen to know what’s coming next. Hopefully Labirintus will be a claustrophobic, unsettling flick with some genuine frights; perhaps following in the footsteps of films like The Descent, Creep and Mimic.
Labirintus is due to start production in Spring of next year.
