While we were all a little surprised when former High School Musical heartthrob Zac Efron was cast as infamous serial killer and necrophile Ted Bundy in upcoming biopic-of-sorts Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, the latest casting announcement is even more unexpected. THR have reported that The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons is also set to appear in the film, which is currently shooting in Covington, Kentucky.
Parsons – who does in fact have one horror flick under his belt, having appeared in 2015’s Visions – is playing Larry Simpson, the lead prosecutor in the 1979 Miami trial that convicted Bundy of five of more than 30 murders he is believed to have committed.
Oscar nominee John Malkovich will play Judge Edward Cowart, the man who presided over the trial and ultimately sentenced Bundy to death. Westworld’s Angela Sarafyan was recently cast as Joanna, a close friend of Bundy’s girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer (Okja’s Lily Collins), from who’s perspective the film is told. Also appearing in the film are Burn Notice’s Jeffrey Donovan, and Under the Dome’s Grace Victoria Cox
The wonderfully-titled film was scripted by Michael Werwie, and is being directed by Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 director Joe Berlinger.
