For quite some time now, we’ve been hearing that a third Happy Death Day instalment was in the works.
In fact, the last we heard of the project, star Jessica Rothe and creator Christopher Landon said a third instalment was “definitely happening.”
However, since then we’ve had nothing but silence.
Although both Rothe and Landon continue to work on new projects, Happy Death Day never seems to be far from their minds.
Recently, whilst promoting her newest thriller Affection, Jessica Rothe commented on the progress of Happy Death Day 3:
“I actually just had dinner with Chris Landon last week, and we have a sneaky plan. It’s not even that sneaky of a plan; it’s just that we feel incredibly passionately about making the third film happen.”
Rothe continues:
“We are dedicated to do the legwork on our end, in terms of developing it and getting it to where it needs to be so that it becomes a no-brainer for the studio. Chris feels really strongly, and I agree, he’s come up with an incredible, incredible end of the trilogy and a way to kind of perfectly cap the movies.”
So, it seems to be somewhat of a passion project for both Rothe and Landon, as they try to convince Blumhouse to press ahead. Of course, it’s understandable why there’s hesitation on the studio’s part, as 2019’s Happy Death Day 2 U underperformed considerably.
However, they do say persistence is key! With Rothe and Landon willing to do anything it takes to complete the Happy Death Day trilogy, we have little doubt a new movie will soon be taking shape.
