In the words of her beloved character Julie James, fans are asking Jennifer Love Hewitt “what are you waiting for?”
With filming underway on a brand-new I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel, fans are growing increasingly concerned that Hewitt hasn’t yet boarded the project.
A slew of actors are already aboard, including Hewitt’s on-screen husband Freddie Prinze Jr. However, the actress remains absent, despite repeatedly speaking about her willingness to be involved.
Now, Hewitt has sought to assure fans further in a new interview. Speaking at length about why she hasn’t yet closed her deal, the star cited scheduling conflicts as the primary issue:
“It has only been scheduling and me trying to make sure that if I go back to the franchise, I just don’t want to be the ghost of ’90s past,” Hewitt explained.
So, it seems her six-season run on the hit show 9-1-1 is chiefly the reason behind Hewitt’s delay boarding the Last Summer sequel. However, as the star began to hint at, the delay is also partly due to Hewitt’s wish for a significant role. She further elaborated:
“I really want to do something, and I want to be there for Julie James fans… I just want it to feel like, you know, if she comes back then it means something.”
Hewitt’s comments track with what we’ve heard from more than one trusted source. According to what we’ve been told, production in Australia is currently working around Jennifer Love Hewitt’s involvement. Writer-director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is said to be beefing up the role Julie James will play in Last Summer, to secure Hewitt’s involvement. We’re told to expect an announcement soon, once the actress sees a final draft of the script.
Hewitt ended her comments on a hopeful note, echoing the word we’ve received of a pending confirmation:
“I am possibly preparing for that. I am so close to being able to say something that’s exciting.”
We’re all waiting, Jennifer… Just give us the nod!
