Something strange is afoot with Friday the 13th… again.
Back in August, following a sizeable promotional push, partial Friday rights holders Jason Universe released Sweet Revenge.
This short film was billed as Jason Voorhees’ return to screens after an absence of fifteen years.
However, the short film met with considerable backlash from fans, many very upset with Jason Voorhees new look. Although, most of the criticism stemmed from the fact that Sweet Revenge was seemingly an extended ad for Jason Universe’s brand partners Angry Orchard.
To say Jason’s return fell flat after so many hurdles is an understatement… However, now it appears that the Friday the 13th franchise might be in trouble again.
Jason Universe and Angry Orchard have seemingly scrubbed Sweet Revenge from the internet.
As of December 10th 2025, the short film and its trailer have been removed from both company’s YouTube channels.
Although this was done silently, fans and franchise media outlets were quick to take note, with all wondering what this means.
Is it possible that the negative reception to Sweet Revenge has forced all involved to re-think the direction of the franchise re-birth?
Or has the longtime rights battle over the Friday the 13th property re-ignited? As far as was reported, things were not-so-amicably settled between Victor Miller and Sean S. Cunningham. This is why new content came our way… mediocre as it was.
Is there a new legal battle brewing over the Friday the 13th property? If so, what will this mean for the recently-wrapped Crystal Lake series?
