With Jackson Stewart’s awesome Beyond the Gates now out on UK DVD, the director has already been sharing his plans for a sequel, and he’s taking inspiration from some of the ‘80s best.
Talking to the Scream Addicts Podcast, Stewart revealed: “I am writing a sequel to Beyond the Gates, which will definitely take some cues from A Nightmare on Elm Street 4. It’s a little bit of a different story and kind of changes up some things. It’s definitely bigger scale, and a little bit more in the vein of the ’80s paranoia horror movies like The Stuff and Society, and even the ’70s Invasion of the Body Snatchers.”
When asked about where we can expect the plot to be going, he replied: “It would be focusing on John from the previous movie. He has a new girlfriend in the mix; probably going to be [played by] Alex Essoe or Jocelin Donahue, someone cool like that.”
If you’re in the UK and haven’t seen Beyond the Gates, it’s time to change that. It’s great. The gore is plentiful, the humour is on point, it bleeds with VHS love and it stars Barbara Crampton, for gawd’s sake! US audiences have a little longer to wait, with the film hitting home video on May 2nd.
