Following his monster success in The Boys and his starring turn as Richie Kirsch in 2022’s Scream, it seems Jack Quaid is quite happy to stick with the weird and wonderful as it was announced this past week he will star in the upcoming horror-sci-fi flick Companion.
Announced in January of 2023, Companion was initially set to be directed by Barbarian director Zach Cregger and the BoulderLight team behind that film. However, first time director Drew Hancock will take the reins as Cregger opts to instead concentrate on his own script to follow Barbarian’s success, the Pedro Pascal starring Weapons.
That doesn’t mean Cregger and the BoulderLight team have jumped-ship entirely, however. Having been with the project since it was acquired by New Line Cinema after a heated bidding war, they intend to stay on and produce the film. It was the team’s involvement that initially sparked the interest of both Quaid and New Line in the project, and they are confident Hancock will deliver a film just as impactful as Cregger’s initial vision.
Plot details for Companion are remaining closely guarded, save for the genre reveal, and no additional cast members or potential release windows have been announced. With someone of Quaid’s calibre aboard, it is highly probable that the cast will quickly come together.
We will report any further updates on this decidedly mysterious project as soon as we have them.
