After playing the long game, HBO have finally revealed if there will be a second season of IT: Welcome to Derry.
It has been confirmed that the hit show will return for a second season, taking us back to 1935, further exploring the dark history of Derry.
According to a newly released logline:
“Set in 1935, amidst the Great Depression, Season 2 revolves around the bloody massacre of the Bradley Gang, a group of bank robbers who stop in Derry to buy ammo and end up facing unimaginable horror.”
This fits with the outlined three-season plan the showrunners detailed following the success of Season One. Each subsequent instalment will take us back another 27 years, examining different horrific events brought upon Derry by Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
Bill Skarsgard is expected to return as the iconic villain for Season Two, despite being initially reluctant to return for Welcome to Derry.
Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane is also returning, alongside longtime IT producers Andy and Barbara Muschietti.
In a joint statement the Muschietti’s said of the renewal:
“Continuing to explore and expand on the amazing world Stephen King created is an absolute privilege. The support of our partners at HBO and Warner Bros. Television is priceless. Boy, do we love our jobs!”
No word yet on casting announcements for IT: Welcome to Derry Season Two, but some news is expected soon.
The second season doesn’t yet have a premiere date, but production will likely get underway next year.
