It seems like one of the most successful movies of the horror and thriller genre from this decade will return for a sequel. Pennywise is back and if you are afraid of clowns, watch at your own risk.
The first IT movie two years ago was an instant hit all around the world and the movie critics said some kind words about it. The movie has a positive review on IMDB, with 7.4/10 rating, with 85% in Rotten Tomatoes. The ‘Tomatometer’ describes it as a “well-acted and fiendishly frightening with an emotionally affecting story at its core” and “amplifies the horror in Stephen King’s classic story without losing touch with its heart”.
The scary clown also became a popular Halloween outfit that celebrities and athletes started using it and sharing on social media. Chris Johnson, one of the top players in NFL went even further and used cleats for the sport Pennywise themed. Let’s hope these boots can scary a bit the opponents and push his team, the Arizona Cardinals, a bit up on the NFL Superbowl odds, since they are almost dead last.
Anyway, Pennywise is back to haunt us in the new IT: Chapter 2 movie and the question is: will the sequel be able to make justice to the success of the first one?
The action happens 27 years later from the first IT movie, as the team battles the demons of the many-faced monster as adults. Andy Muschietti returned to be the original director joined up by incredible Hollywood cast such as Jessica Chastain (Mad Men), James McAvoy (Professor X in the X-Men Movies), Bill Hader (star of HBO show Barry) and many more.
Let’s jump into some of the details that we have
Release date
It: Chapter 2 will be released on September 6th, 2019, after two years from the first movie. It might seem a long wait, but successful stories do not happen overnight. With the first movie, they had incredible success right from the start, breaking all kinds of records. That is why the development of the sequel took 2 years to be made. Back in 2017, they announced that they will not be making the second movie if they cannot make it better than the first.
Trailer
As far as horror trailers go, they seem to be the same recipe: ominous music, some scary creatures and a jump scare to shock you. However, the IT: Chapter 2 trailer looks different and catches that scary vibe even without jumping monsters. We can see that the crew isn’t changing too much which is a good thing. They seem to like to be the perfect combination bringing the movie on another level.
Plot
Andy Muschietti got some pretty interesting news for you. The director of the IT: Chapter 2 said that this movie will be scarier and more intense than the first one. Andy likes to keep us on our toes at all times. The trailer did not relieve that much scary stuff – except that you might be afraid of your grandmother from now on. It seems like the director wants to keep most of the elements of this movie in secret.
The well-known crew from the Loser’s Club seems like it will go back and forward through years as they are compared to kids and adults which is another interesting thing in this movie.
Balloons will be the main point of the movie. As far as movie posters go, they started using the quote “You’ll float too”, which hints to the way the flick will develop. We can see from the trailer that Pennywise is floating with a bunch of red balloons, but the reason remains unclear and we will have to wait and see. It is impossible for someone to make balloons look terrifying but here we are, looking at the It: Chapter 2 promo poster.
The first movie had indeed incredible popularity, so maybe Chapter Two will do justice in being a proper sequel.
Pennywise still looks the same, creepy as hell bringing more fear into this movie. We will have to wait for the release of the movie in order to get more detail analysis, but with this crew and big legacy behind your name, its success is guaranteed. However, the question everyone asks is this movie going to be scarier than the first one? If we hold the director to his word, it will be, we will just have to wait and see.
