2022’s prequel Orphan: First Kill was a surprise hit.
Despite coming 12 years after the original, the hype for the prequel was palpable. In a move that further defied the odds, Orphan: First Kill brought in $42 million at the box-office, despite a simultaneous release to streaming.
With such success, it was perhaps inevitable that the Orphan series would continue.
Development on a third film was confirmed to have begun in late 2023. Series star Isabelle Fuhrman confirmed that she’d had “discussions,” but that nothing had been signed.
In November 2024, Dark Castle and Lionsgate officially greenlit Orphan 3, confirming that Fuhrman would return to the role of Esther. Furthermore, Orphan: First Kill director William Brent Bell is set to return, alongside screenwriter David Coggeshall.
Now, we have an exciting new update on Orphan 3, courtesy of star Isabell Fuhrman.
Speaking at Spookala in Tampa, Florida recently, Fuhrman gave the following update on how the new movie is progressing:
“It’s already been written; all I can say is the twists are wilder and crazier.”
The star further elaborated that it was the quality of the script that convinced her to sign on, despite concerns she could no longer convincingly play a 12-year-old.
When pressed on if a third entry will act as a sequel or follow First Kill’s prequel route, Fuhrman stated:
“Both, actually. It’s an inbetweenquel.”
So, it sounds as though things are progressing nicely on Orphan 3, even if we’re still somewhat in the dark about the direction.
Will the third movie be one we’ll be seeing on the 2026 slate? Stay tuned to find out!
