After giving the franchise its biggest hit in almost a decade, it seems talk of a sequel to 2022’s legacy sequel Texas Chainsaw Massacre was non-existent… until now.

A rumour has persistently swirled around the online horror circle for about 2 weeks now that a new Texas Chainsaw film is in development. Now that many mainstream outlets are confidently reporting the story, we feel confident in doing the same.

Said to be titled Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Legacy, the project is described as follows:
“The film is set to explore the seemingly peaceful façade of Oasis Oaks, a gated community in rural Texas. Within the manicured lawns and vigilant security, a protagonist family enjoying suburban bliss becomes entangled in a harrowing battle for survival as they confront the infamous Leatherface and his macabre kin on an abandoned property nearby.”

Sounds very promising, indeed.

However, we must stress that we don’t know anything concrete yet, as no official announcements have been made. This appears to be commonplace for the Chainsaw franchise, with the last entry only officially announced two years after its completion.

We are still in the dark as to whether Legacy will pick up where 2022’s sequel left off, but fans hope so. David Blue Garcia’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre brought the franchise roaring back to the mainstream with tremendous success on Netflix. Despite receiving a critical lashing, the film placed number 2 worldwide in its week of release, with over 29 million households tuning in.

Fans are eager for a sequel, and Garcia is keen to return, so we hope some direct continuity is in store.

We will be on the lookout for any further information regarding Leatherface’s potential return in the near future, and will bring you any morsel we find.
