“The song isn’t even in Irish… It’s in… whatever came before Irish.”

There’s something inherently unsettling about folk songs, isn’t there? Although most have a catchy melody that we often find ourselves humming… Have you ever stopped to consider the lyrics? Most are quite grim and dire, prime examples being The Butcher Boy and O Death.

Now, Irish filmmaker Paul Duane takes us inside the sinister connotations one such song has in the atmospheric trailer for All You Need Is Death. The film is described as follows:
“All You Need is Death tells the story of a young couple who are part of a mysterious, secret organization that travels at night with the desire to discover forbidden knowledge. They believe that living, modern alchemy is contained in old, forgotten songs. When they find a mysterious elderly woman who sings songs that have never been heard before, they open the door to ancient evil and madness.”

Maintaining a disturbing air of mystery throughout, the short clip is steeped in that beautiful but unsettling green-grey cast that only Ireland can provide. Offering only hints as to what this mysterious folk song is capable of, the tune seems to unleash something evil… something demonic, when spoken aloud.

Receiving universal praise whilst making the film festival circuit this past year, All You Need Is Death stars Irish actress Olwen Fouéré, who has been steadily making a name for herself in the genre. After appearances in Mandy and 2022’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre, she is next to be seen in The Watchers.

Releasing to theatres and on Demand on April 11th, All You Need Is Death is one that could easily pass fans by. We implore you, seek this one out… It will stay with you for a long time afterwards.
