Last year, AMC Networks landed the rights to all novels in Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles and The Lives of the Mayfair Witches book series, ordering up a small-screen adaptation of Interview with the Vampire to kick things off. The show has officially cast one of its leads: Sam Reid (Anonymous) will play the vampire Lestat, the character played by Tom Cruise in the 1996 film adaptation!
Rolin Jones will write, executive produce, and showrun the eight-episode series, which will be directed by Alan Taylor (Deadwood). Anne and Christopher Rice will executive produce alongside Mark Johnson.
The novel Interview with the Vampire centres around Louis de Pointe du Lac, the titular vampire, who is telling his life story to a reporter—including how he met and was mentored by Lestat de Lioncourt, the vampire who turned him. Lestat appears in multiple books in The Vampire Chronicles series, so this could be a long-term role for Reid. For now though, Interview with the Vampire is expected to debut in 2022.
