It’s always dicey being the sixth instalment in a franchise.
However, as we’ve seen recently, the appetite for franchise horror has been insatiable, with Scream 7 becoming the most successful in the series to date.
So, it’s perhaps no surprise that Insidious: Out of the Further has slayed at the worldwide box-office, despite being the sixth entry.
It was always going to be a daunting prospect, coming after 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door. After all, the fifth entry unexpectedly became the highest grossing in the series so far.
But, Insidious: Out of the Further put on an admirable showing, pulling in $25.1 million domestically during its opening weekend.
Admittedly, this is less than The Red Door’s $33 million debut, but is right on target according to industry estimates. This put the film in third place, finishing behind holdover blockbusters The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. An admirable performance indeed facing such stiff competition.
Elsewhere, Out of the Further performed equally as respectably, pulling in an additional $35 million from overseas markets. This brings the movie’s worldwide debut total to $60.1 million, the third-best opening of the series.
Critically, reviews are mixed, but all agree that Out of the Further is an improvement on its predecessor.
So, it looks like this is another win for the Insidious franchise. Undoubtedly, with the film sure to cross the $100 million milestone soon, we’ll hear rumblings of a sequel in no time.
