It has been over five years since we last ventured into “the further,” but James Wan’s Insidious universe is set to haunt our dreams once more with Insidious: Fear the Dark.
News comes this past week that the trailer for the franchise’s fifth outing is set to drop in mid-April after a long absence from screens. This puts the trailer in good-standing to be attached to high profile horror releases such as Evil Dead Rise or Universal’s Renfield.
Insidious: Fear the Dark will take a back-to-basics approach and reintroduce us to the Lambert family, who we last spent time with during 2013’s Insidious: Chapter 2. The film will focus on Ty Simpkins’ Dalton Lambert as he heads off to college, his psychic gifts causing havoc once more.
Alongside Simpkins original cast members Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne and Andrew Astor will also reprise their roles as Josh, Renai, and Foster Lambert. New cast members added to the project include Hiam Abbass, Sinclair Daniel and Peter Dager in undisclosed roles.
Plot details are being kept under wraps aside from the brief synopsis provided, so word is still unclear as to the involvement of franchise mainstays Lin Shaye, Leigh Whannell and Angus Sampson. Similarly, it is unknown if Barbara Hershey will reprise her role of Lorraine Lambert.
Directed by franchise alum Patrick Wilson in his filmmaking debut, Insidious: Fear the Dark is set for release on July 7th 2023. We will undoubtedly have more updates as the time draws closer, so watch this space.
