For the better part of a year now, the fifth instalment of the blockbusting Insidious franchise has been referred to as Insidious: Fear the Dark. However, last week it was revealed to media outlets that the film has undergone a post-production title change and will now release as Insidious: The Red Door.
The Red Door seems a fitting moniker for the picture as the franchise has used red doors throughout its run as a gateway into “the further.”
This fifth instalment will mark the directorial debut of series star Patrick Wilson from a story he penned. Bringing back the Lambert family of the first two films, Insidious: The Red Door will follow Dalton Lambert as he heads off to college. Whilst there, sinister events arise that necessitate the Lambert family venturing back into “the further.”
Alongside Wilson returning as Josh Lambert, Rose Byrne will reprise her role as Renai Lambert with Ty Simpkins and Andrew Astor returning as Dalton and Foster Lambert.
Confirmation of franchise face Lin Shaye returning is still pending. Similarly, it is unknown if Barbara Hershey, Leigh Whannell or Angus Sampson will reprise their roles from the original Lambert timeline.
Insidious: The Red Door will hit theatres on July 7th 2023, placing it in stiff competition with several summer blockbuster potentials. Will another trip to “the further” dominate the charts once more? We’ll be here to report on the results.
