Here at Scream Magazine, you know we love anything Jaws related. Hence, we were excited to bring you the news that Steven Spielberg’s classic is headed back to theatres for its fiftieth anniversary.
Yes, unbelievably, June 20th 2025 marked five decades since Jaws first terrified audiences. The film is expected to roar back onto the big screen between August 29th and September 4th this year… but that’s not all!
Now we have confirmation that Jaws will be swimming back to theatres in IMAX, making its debut on the premium format.
Appropriately remembered as a watershed moment in cinema history, Jaws was a game-changer in every sense upon release.
Following universally positive test screenings, Universal Pictures elected to release the film to a then-unheard-of 400 screens. Unsurprisingly, Jaws attained the highest opening weekend in history until that point, with $7.8 million. The film would ultimately gross almost $300 million domestically after its initial run.
Consequently, the movie would go on to become the highest grossing film of all time. Jaws would hold this record for two years, before being dethroned in 1977 by Star Wars.
Now, the film is set to hit the big screen again the world over for its momentous birthday… in IMAX!
So, if you fancy seeing Jaws in theatres this summer, check your local listings between August 29th and September 4th. IMAX tickets are on sale now!
