‘IMAGINARY’ CAST ON THE SECRET BEHIND CHAUNCEY’S PLUSH EXTERIOR

Posted on: March 6th, 2024

Imaginary Friends: Innocent Childhood Companions or Sinister Cinema Staples?

For decades, imaginary friends have captivated audiences as nostalgic hallmarks of childhood innocence until a darker cinematic trend emerged, portraying these imaginary companions as harbingers of bone-chilling horror.

The latest foray into this territory comes from Blumhouse Productions and Lionsgate Films. Their new release “Imaginary” examines the nature of imaginary friends and questions if there could be something more sinister lurking beneath their plush exteriors.

Directed by Jeff Wadlow, known for thrillers like “Cry Wolf” and “Truth or Dare,” the film centers on a young girl named Alice who develops an attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey. At first their tea parties and games seem harmless fun, but Alice’s behavior takes an unsettling turn that forces her stepmother Jessica to investigate Chauncey’s true nature.

With Imaginary opening in theaters on 8 March 2024, SCREAM sat down with the film’s stars Pyper Braun, Taegen Burns and Tom Payne to discover the secret behind Chauncey’s innocent façade, what it was like bringing the mystical world of Chauncey to life, and the challenges and joys of manifesting this mystical world.
