Last week we showed you a trailer for a mysterious untitled film and we can now reveal the film’s identity. We speculated whether it would be a film at all, because A24 has been dipping its toes in Television territory, but it is a film. It is not, however, feature length. It is a short Japanese film called Toru and it will be premiering at the Sundance Film Festival later this month.
The film is 14-minutes long with English subtitles and follows a young boy called Toru who is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. His parents are told that he has the opportunity to experience a full life in just a few days.
It’s a fascinating concept that reminds us of the San Junipero segment of Black Mirror, which is a beautiful exploration of life and death. We’re certainly excited to hear the possible acclaim of the film when it screens at the end of the month. Remind yourself of the intriguing trailer below.
