“I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER” LEGACY SEQUEL SLASHES INTO SUMMER 2025

Posted on: May 27th, 2024

“Happy fourth of July, Julie!”

Whilst not the iconic American holiday that’s front and centre in the series, we’re delighted to hear that Sony have issued a release date for their highly-anticipated I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel.

First reported on in March of 2023, outlets suggested that original stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr had been “approached” to reprise their roles. However, this was soon debunked by Prinze Jr as “hype,” citing he hadn’t received an offer.

The project stayed on the backburner for several months, with director Jannifer Kaytin Robinson and writer Leah McKendrick offering only the smallest of updates. Things gained considerable momentum in December of 2023, when Hewitt announced she would “absolutely” reprise her role of Julie James if asked.

This seemed to set in motion a fast-tracking on Sony’s end, as more plot details emerged. According to McKendrick, Julie James is “central” to this new chapter, and the story will heavily feature social media.

In February 2024, Jennifer Love Hewitt confirmed she had been approached, but hadn’t yet signed on.

Now, the project is hurtling towards production with a brand-new release date of July 18th 2025. Whilst no concrete cast announcements have been made, and no further plot details clarified, such a close date surely means the film is almost ready for production.

We expect to see several more updates in the coming months, including confirmation of a shoot later this year. We’ll let you know as soon as we have anything concrete, however, fans can rejoice that The Fisherman will return.
