Here’s some unexpected news: a sequel to the 2007 film I Am Legend is in the works over at Warner Bros. What’s more, Akiva Goldsman will once again write the script and Will Smith will return to star and produce.
Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther) will join Smith this time around, both in front of the camera and as a producer.
In I Am Legend, which was based on Richard Matheson’s 1954 novel of the same name, scientist Dr Robert Neville (Smith) searches for survivors of a man-made plague in what is left of New York City. While he might be the only survivor, he is far from alone: the Infected lurk in the shadows, watching his every move. Outnumbered and running out of time, Neville hunts for a cure using his own immune blood.
No word yet on the plot of the sequel, though considering Neville’s fate at the end of the first film (which was itself a significant departure from the source material) it will be interesting to see how Smith’s role is incorporated this time around.
