The Vietnamese gothic horror The Housemaid is getting a US-based remake with Geoffrey Fletcher – the writer of 2009’s award-winning Precious – on-board to write the new script. When speaking about tackling the remake, he said:
“The opportunity to reimagine this compelling story in the context of American history is incredibly exciting. Collaborating with CJ Entertainment and Motor, an international team of talents, is equally thrilling and this unique project speaks to the creative power of diverse voices. Derek Nguyen’s cinematic fable, produced by Timothy Bui, is perfect for Reconstruction Era reinvention, especially today.”
The original film comes from director Derek Nguyen and follows a woman who falls in love with a French officer, triggering the haunting revenge of his deceased ex-wife. The film is an impressive tale of payback, love and the supernatural, and is filled with plenty of surprising twists and turns, so we’re not surprised to see a US remake in the works.
The Housemaid will be released via IFC Midnight on 16th February 2018, so check it out before the American remake hits the screen. More as it comes!
