Starz has given an eight-episode series order to the new horror-comedy series Shining Vale, starring Courtney Cox (Scream).
From Jeff Astrof and Sharon Horgan, Shining Vale follows a dysfunctional family that moves from the city to a small town. Their new house was the site of terrible atrocities, but no one seems to notice except Pat, who’s convinced she’s either depressed or possessed. Turns out, the symptoms are exactly the same.
Cox will star as Pat, a former wild child who rose to fame after writing a raunchy female empowerment novel. Years later, Pat is living the sober life but is totally unfulfilled. She has yet to write her second novel and her marriage is on the rocks after her affair with the handyman.
Other cast members in the series include Greg Kinnear (The Stand) as husband Terry, Mira Sorvino (Mimic) as Pat’s alter ego Rosemary, and Gus Birney and Dylan Gage as the couple’s teenage kids. Dearbhla Walsh (The Handmaid’s Tale) directed the pilot, from a teleplay written by Astrof.
