After 29 years of maybes and false starts, last year finally saw the much-anticipated sequel Hocus Pocus 2 become a reality. The follow-up saw leads Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy return and quickly became the most streamed item on Disney+. Now it seems the company is eager to repeat the success, with Disney president Sean Bailey speaking on a continuation of the witchy goings-on saying “yes, Hocus Pocus 3 is happening.”
Furthermore, it has been confirmed that the sequel’s director Anne Fletcher will return to helm the third entry, with producer Adam Shankman voicing his praise for Fletcher’s work. Particularly Shankman highlights how Fletcher balanced the introduction of new characters and plot threads with the returning elements from the original.
“Anne, I think handled the new elements really, really beautifully. We went back and forth on how that was going to work, if it was going to work, forever, and Anne was just like, ‘This is what we’re going to do.’ And I think it’s great. And it creates a lot of excitement about potential spinoffs.”
So, are we also going to see a Hocus Pocus spin-off movie or TV show following the new characters the sequel introduced? Or will they return in this third instalment? Furthermore, what of stars Midler, Parker, and Najimy? Will they be back?
Plenty of questions in regards to this recently-announced sequel, but so few concrete answers. We will report any further developments as they come in.
