The first season of HBO’s The Outsider was nominated for an Emmy, but the network has chosen not to proceed with another season. That said, the project isn’t dead yet, as MRC, the studio behind the series, is shopping it to other premium networks and streamers.
An adaptation of Stephen King’s 2018 horror novel of the same name, the first season of The Outsider centred around the gruesome murder of an 11-year-old boy. With all evidence pointing toward Terry Maitland (Jason Bateman), a prominent local figure, the police swiftly make an arrest. But when Maitland reveals an ironclad alibi, detective Ralph Anderson (Ben Mendelsohn) is forced to explain the unexplainable, leading him to enlist the help of an unorthodox private investigator named Holly Gibney (Cynthia Erivo).
Season two was set to expand beyond the storyline of the book, which was wrapped up by the end of the original season.
