HBO Max has just ordered a pilot for a series called The Shelley Society, and they’ve turned to Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (creator of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Riverdale) to deliver the creepy goods.
The series, which is described as a Victorian take on the X-Files, will be a real genre mash-up—think teen romance meets gothic horror. It will also feature a young Mary Shelley, who leads a band of Romantic outlaws, including Percy Shelley and Lord Byron, against a horde of supernatural threats and creatures. And yes, Shelley’s own creation, Frankenstein’s Monster, will be among them.
HBO Max has also ordered an additional script for the potential series, which was co-created by Tessa Leigh Williams and James DeWille.
