The award-winning zombie survival game The Last of Us is being adapted as a series for HBO. Craig Mazin (Cheroblyl) is developing the series, and will write and executive produce alongside Neil Druckmann, the game’s original creator and writer.
First released in 2013, The Last of Us is set 20 years after the outbreak of a strange fungus that turns its hosts into aggressive creators. One survivor, Joel, is tasked with smuggling a 14-year-old girl named Ellie out of the military quarantine zone—but the seemingly simple task turns into a brutal journey across the infected U.S.
The planned series comes to us from PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures Television and will cover the events of the first game. Carolyn Strauss is on board to executive produce, as is Evan Wells, president of Naughty Dog, the developer behind the game.
