It’s well known that here at SCREAM, we simply adore anything Hammer Horror related. The company was a staple of genre cinema for over two decades and breathed new life into the Gothic horror of olde. Furthermore, the company made icons out of actors Sir Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing… what a legacy!
Hence, we are absolutely delighted to bring you the news that Hammer Film Productions will be returning following the company’s acquisition by brand new management, who have promised a slate of exciting announcements is “imminent!”
John Gore, a noted theatre producer from London, has purchased the brand and will now set about “revitalizing” Hammer Horror for the modern age. Whilst the primary aim is to produce new Hammer content, Gore and his team have also stressed that preserving Hammer’s legacy and library of classic properties is also a huge priority.
The first Hammer production under Gore’s ownership is set to be the Eddie Izzard starring Dr Jekyll, with an as-yet-unconfirmed release date of late 2023.
Of acquiring Hammer and their vast library of film history, new owner John Gore had this to say:
“Ever since I was a young boy, I’ve been enchanted by the magic of Hammer Films. Its stories, its characters and its unique place in British heritage and cinema have been a source of inspiration and wonder. Today, as I stand at the helm of this iconic studio, my commitment is twofold: to celebrate and preserve the unmatched legacy of Hammer and to usher in a new era of storytelling that captivates audiences worldwide. With significant investment and a fresh creative vision, we will ensure that the spirit of Hammer not only endures but thrives in the modern age.”
We will keep our ear to the ground for any further announcements regarding new Hammer productions.
