About a year and a half ago, we reported that Hammer Films was under new management.
Following their acquisition by theatre producer John Gore, the company promised that new movies were “on the way.”
Now, we have confirmation that not only will a new Hammer production soon arrive, but it will mark the company’s first original monster movie since 1966.
Coming to us from Canadian filmmaker Casey Walker, Ithaqua will take us deep into the Canadian wilderness during a frigid 1800s winter.
In an official logline, Hammer Films have described Ithaqua as follows:
“The fur trade is in decline and a remote outpost is starving. A mercenary fights to unite the survivors against the cold, the hunger… and something far worse.
A dark force is watching. Waiting. And those who fall into its grasp are cursed with an insatiable hunger for flesh.”
Among the cast attached to the project include Westworld star Luke Hemsworth, Boardwalk Empire’s Michael Pitt, and Kevin Durand.
Sounding like a take on the classic legend of the wendigo, Hammer have teased of the film:
“This is horror as it was meant to be: terrifying and utterly unforgettable!”
Ithaqua doesn’t currently have a release date, however, one is expected soon. We’ll be sure to let you know as soon as one is announced.
