Michael Myers may not be returning as soon as we think…
Back in the fall of 2023, a fierce bidding war broke out for a stake in the Halloween franchise. Miramax ultimately secured the bid, giving them a larger share in the series than ever before.
Seeming to gain momentum quickly, it was soon announced that Miramax would oversee the production of a new Halloween television series.
Marc Helwig, head of television production at Miramax, excitedly announced plans for the franchise’s first television venture, promising the project was “on the fast track.”
However, that was over a year ago, and things have been ominously silent since.
Now, reliable sources are telling us that a Halloween television series from Miramax seems unlikely any time soon.
The reasoning behind this is the quiet departure of Helwig from the company in March 2025. Although someone has taken over Helwig’s position, we’re told that Halloween will likely not be moving forward on the small screen without Helwig spearheading the project.
A passion project for the producer, Helwig previously spoke of his plans for the show. Assuring fans that “some really talented people” had been approached, Helwig’s vision sought to use John Carpenter’s 1978 film as a “jumping off point.”
However, now that all seems to have stalled.
It’s interesting to note that Helwig’s departure came just weeks before film trades reported that an “Untitled Halloween Project” was in development.
When reporting on this at the time, we clarified that it remained unclear if the project was the aforementioned television series, or a new Halloween movie.
However, with the knowledge that Helwig is no longer aboard, it seems likely that Miramax have shifted their focus, and Halloween will receive another feature outing. Perhaps the studio listened to fans, many of whom voiced their displeasure with the idea of a Halloween TV series.
So, with no movement on Michael Myers hitting the small screen, has this project been shelved? Is The Shape about to slash into theatres again instead?
As the Halloween film franchise appears to be heading back to the big screen, fans are once again drawn to its iconic horror aesthetic. In recent years, a custom lapel pin has become a popular way to capture the eerie yet festive spirit of the season.
Designed with motifs such as masks, knives, or the silhouette of Michael Myers, these Custom Pins may be small, but it makes a bold statement—perfect as a Halloween gift for horror fans and a collectible piece that keeps the Halloween vibe alive all year round.
